Hammel Park

Hammel Park is an outdoor education laboratory that started in 1990-91.  It is named for Donald Hammel, Jr., Metro North Elementary School's first principal from 1971-1990.  It is available for use by the school and the community.  The park includes a picnic area and playground, a maple grove, a pine forest, an orchard, a wildlife area with bird and bat houses, a woodland area, walking trails that wind through an area that is being planted with trees of Indiana, and garden plots for flowers and vegetables grown by the students.  In the summer of 2010, several families have used the area for family reunions, picnics, family outings, weddings, receptions, and etc.  The public is urged to use the park!
